September 24, 2013 Meeting Minutes

The Union County Redevelopment Commission met at 8:00am in the Union County Commissioners’ meeting room of the Union County Courthouse.  Commission members Bill Frazer, Melanie Caldwell, Dennis Estridge, Dan Hubbard Kris Lacy and Marc Ross, were in attendance.  Bev Woodruff of The Liberty Herald and Pam Tharp of the Palladium-Item also attended.  Bill Frazer welcomed Marc Ross to the commission as our newest member.  His participation as a member of the Redevelopment Commission is much appreciated.

The meeting minutes of July 30, 2013 were read and approved unanimously. The motion was made by Dennis Estridge and seconded by Dan Hubbard.

The commission reviewed a revised proposal and sign design for the Whitewater Industrial Park from A-Plus Signs.  All members agreed to the proposal and agreed that we should move ahead on the quote from A Plus signs at a cost of $11,525.00.  Funds for the payment of the sign come from the Lawrenceburg Engineering and Marketing grant and complete the monies provided to UCRC from Lawrenceburg.

The Union County Redevelopment Commission logo designed by Jenie Lahmann of Insights Design was approved unanimously and will be used on our website:, the Whitewater Industrial Park sign and any stationary and marketing materials.

The motion to approve both the sign and logo was made by Dan Hubbard and seconded by Dennis Estridge.

As we discussed at our last meeting, UCRC is beginning the process of listing the Whitewater Industrial Park on the State of Indiana’s “shovel ready” website. Each member accepted a specific line item from the Indiana Shovel Ready Program application.  Progress on the application will be reviewed each meeting until its completion.

Upon a recommendation by Jim Williams, county attorney, the commission voted unanimously against the proposal made by George Andres, Marketing Director of Indiana Eastern Railroad who presented an option to purchase 10 acres in the Whitewater Industrial Park.   Mr. Williams advised against the option recommending rather keeping all options open to any potential tenant, including Indiana Eastern Railroad.   Marc Ross agreed to stay in touch with Mr. Andres and Chris Whitley of Indiana Eastern Railroad for future development possibilities.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Melanie Caldwell, Secretary
